Amy N. Gorniak is a Licensed Psychological Associate and Licensed Professional Counselor. She completed her Masters degree in Clinical Psychology at Midwestern State University in 2010, during which she specialized in child and adolescent clinical work in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She continued her career by working with children in special education as a substitute teacher and providing social services to children and families experiencing trauma. In 2015, Ms. Gorniak joined Early Head Start and Head Start where she provided services to children from birth to age 5 and their families. She also provided individual and family counseling to older children, adolescents, and adults in a community mental health setting. Ms. Gorniak moved to Houston, TX in 2017 to begin her doctorate program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake where she is obtaining a degree in combined Clinical and School Psychology. During her time in the program she has provided services for individuals across the lifespan with a variety of needs, including assessment, behavior parent training, and individual therapy, at the Psychological Services Clinic on campus. She has also worked in Galena Park Independent School District providing a variety of psychological services to children and families in the district.
Ms. Gorniak works primarily with individuals who have experienced trauma, and children, youth, and families involved with or at risk of involvement with social services systems. She is passionate about supporting others to find healing and build the lives and relationships they seek to embody in the world. She believes that each of us faces unique challenges in life but also have to come to terms with similar experiences, such as loss, dying, and the fear of personal responsibility for failure or success. She equally believes that each of us has skills, strengths, and ways of being in the world that can help us meet these challenges and continue to grow. Her work is informed by the belief that we all have personal agency in our lives- the ability to grow and make choices and changes to improve ourselves, our relationships, and our circumstances. At the same time, she is aware that social factors have significant negative effects in the lives of many of us, and is dedicated to personal and social advocacy work. Ms. Gorniak currently provides assessment services at Moore Mental Health and Behavioral Services under the supervision of Dr. Melissa Moore.
